Mackey in Home Stretch

The incomparable Lance Mackey is expected into Nome this afternoon, wrapping up his third consecutive Iditarod win and the most dominating 36 months in the history of mushing. Mackey has been firmly in control of the last 1/3 of the race behind his awesome team of dogs – led presumably by his superstar, Larry. He has dropped just one dog during the 1,100-mile journey from Anchorage in some of the roughest conditions in recent races. I’m looking forward to hearing his thoughts on his 2009 victory, which puts him in the company of the legendary Susan Butcher and Doug Swingley as the only three-peat winners. I’ll be trying to get him on the phone soon after he settles in.
