BLAST OFF!

Greetings, hello, welcome! If you've found your way here, you must be lost....No, really, you have inadvertently or kindly landed at my small attempt to enter the sphere of blogdom. I am glad to have you here.

Until now, I have resisted the temptation to join the blogosphere (I am a slow adopter bordering on Luddite). Somehow, I am compelled to join the fray. I'll probably get lost in the shuffle of the ever-cluttered world of bloggers, but at least I can count on my mother to read me faithfully. Thank heavens for family.

Why blog? My aim is to shed some additional light on the sporting world, particularly events I cover, as well as other topical issues that get me fired up or stick in my craw. If I can make it interesting and informative, all the better. My goal is to be as objective and fair as possible, but since this is a blog, I will take more liberty in expressing my opinion or printing rumor (that I will identify as such). For instance, since I will be covering the Australian Open for the next couple of weeks, that will be the topic du jour for most of January.

How often will I post? My goal is to file something at least twice a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. We'll see how that goes. I am not ready to turn over my life to blogging or risk my health to continuously feed the maw. I can't promise that slivers of my personal life won't infiltrate at times, but the purpose is to inform about what I am seeing, hearing or writing about, not to let readers know how many poops my dog took in the park that day. Those of you out there, you know what I mean.

The uncensored, unedited, unfact-checked nature of this enterprise is a little daunting. Hopefully I won't make a fool of myself (which is always a possibility). Those of you unfamiliar with my work can read a selection of my reportage on my website at www.douglasrobson.com.

I guess it's official: I am now a blogger.
